Black Friday,Canadian Style

SUX. Ads come out waaay too late.

According to the news, this is on purpose 'cause retailers don't want their "competitors" to beat their prices. Okay, fine, but for most stores here, there really isn't much of a competition. The only example that comes to mind is Future Shop Vs. Best Buy. Then again, in this day and age, a "competitor" is probably any other store who sells the same item.

I say advertise that shit in advance for your customers. It's an open market and customers aren't loyal anymore. They're gonna shop wherever is convenient AND cheap for them!

Anyway, I got an email notification that for Black Friday, Sephora is offering 10 items for $12/each, complete with pics. In the US it's $10 and we've been basically on par for a while now, but whatevs, I'm not gonna nitpick.

So during my jaunt at the mall, I go into Sephora and ask if I can have a sneak peek at the merch. Just to get an idea of the size, variety, figure out what I'm going to buy tomorrow, etc., etc.

Bitch has the nerve to flat-out refuse...as if I'm some kinda spy from one of their competitors or something. (Btw, aside from MAC + the makeup counters at the department stores, there is no competition.) The Sephora sales ASSociate just said, "No, I'm sorry, but we're setting up tonight."

Um, okay, but can't you just point out the shit that you're gonna be selling tomorrow? Why the secrecy?? I just don't get it!

In terms of organising sales, Canadian retailers should just go ALL THE WAY. None of this tiptoeing, pussyfooting. If we're already copying America with this Black Friday shit, why don't we also copy their marketing too??!! Just shout that shit from the rooftops, forget about this shhh...

To the Sephora ho,
