R.I.P. John Hughes

It's a sad, sad day because writer/director/producer, John Hughes has died. Hughes suffered a heart attack this morning in NYC. He was only 59.

Defining the '80s, Hughes was definitely an inspiration to me! It sorta blew my mind when I found out that Hughes didn't stop at just screenwriting. As if that isn't difficult enough! :)

Some of my favs include: Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Pretty In Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful (written/produced, although the 'love' thing happens rather suddenly), Home Alone (written/produced), Career Opportunities (written/produced), etc. etc. Heck, I even like his family stuff like Dutch & Curly Sue!

(A number of years ago, I received a VHS copy of Ferris Bueller's Day Off for my bday. When I rewatched it, I realised that it didn't quite stand the test of time! Not because of the fashion, but because of the whole Whitey thing + rich Whiteys at that - can't relate!!!)

Not exactly the stuffy, French auteur shit that we learn about in film class, but I'd say that Hughes is pretty damn close! He just gave up some of the reins on the difficult shit, i.e. directing.

May his legacy live on!
