Rage Against Suburban Zombie-ism Thursday, February 28, 2008  Adventures in Online Dating #18: Stockholm SyndromeStockholm Syndrome n. an emotional attachment to a captor formed by a hostage as a result of continuous stress, dependence, and a need to cooperate for survival. It always throws me for a loop when someone (who is interested in me) doesn't want to sleep with me right away. (Instead, they actually want to take the time to get to know me as a person.) Contrary to popular response, this "getting to know" makes me feel uneasy, undesirable, & insecure. It's as if I've been conditioned to put out or something. If I was put under hypnosis and I revealed that I was molested as a child, I would not be surprised. I did have the shit kicked outta me as a child so I'm sure this contributes to the Stockholm Syndrome-like feeling that I'm having. I guess it's also similar to the Battered Wife Syndrome. Why get to know me if you're gonna leave anyway...after you've gotten what you wanted? Okay, this post isn't funny anymore.
