We Got VIP'd!!!

file under: Mariah Carey The Adventures of Mimi tour 2006 Air Canada Centre Toronto

No Jumbotron Required

After ridin' 2 sets of escalators up to our nosebleeds, an ACC usher grabbed E's arm and asked her to follow him. (We thought there was some kind of problem with our tickets.) Then the usher took out a stack of gold coloured (!!!) tickets and asked if we wanted to exchange them for our blue ones.

Btw, @ the ACC good = good, in some instances, VERY good, in all instances, way better than blue + blue = nosebleeds = acrophobes or people who suffer from vertigo should not purchase these tix.

We agreed without hesitation.

So down we went on the 2 set of escalators.

$100+ dollar seats for only $18!

We arrived at our seats to find out that they're 6 (six) rows from stage left!!! Not only were they close, but set up in front of our peripheral view was a spiral lattice staircase with butterflies, i.e. the location of Mimi's grand entrances.

I was as giddy as a high school girl!

Cameras/recording devices weren't allowed at the venue, so I don't have any photos. But I think this rule is pretty lame as most people have cameras/video capable cell phones! Present company excluded.

The seats were ah-mazing!

The Concert

All I can say is that last night, homegirl turned it out in Toronto! There were plenty o' her old school hits + a handful of tracks from Emancipation. As per usual, Mariah's voice was pitch perfect. YES, even those parts where she plugs her ear and crouches down, going for her signature high notes!

Her back-up singer and long-time friend, Trey Lorenz of "Someone To Hold" fame was also on-hand to sing the Jackson 5 remake, "I'll Be There". I was never really a fan of that song - either version.

When he was introduced, I just flipped out! I thought he was dead. Apparently, Lorenz has a new cd entitled Mr. Mista which will be released on Sept. 19th. It sounds like it's gonna be a gospel jam!

Mariah stated that no 2 nights are alike as she tends to adlib. I was constantly surprised as to what song was gonna be next.

In-between costume changes/songs, the crowd was entertained by DJ SUS-1 (??) who played old school hits from bands such as Bell Biv Devoe, Salt 'n Peppa, & Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock.

"Mooriah"??

Wardrobed in sparkly bra tops and slinky dresses/skirts, at no point did I think that she was fat. Girl's thick, dat's all, and she's got a booty. It's actually refreshing to see someone famous with some meat on her bones!

The Crowd

As with my observations during her 2003 Charmbracelet tour, Mariah attracts an interesting cross section of fans. There were the snobby Asians, i.e. bitches that look as though they're channeling import models, fat chicks who are in denial, yuppie, conservative women, the sistahs, WASPy people who can't get "funky", beer chuggin' frat boys - who are standing, front 'n centre, screaming the lyrics to every song, early-20s boppers who actually know "Vision of Love", and of course, the gays were out and proud as well.

In Summary...

The Toronto leg of "The Adventures of Mimi" tour comprised of big hits, tits, hair, and surprises with a kareoke club-like atmosphere. I swear they were filming for a music dvd or something!

If you missed last night's concert and are a fan, Mariah will be doing another edition @ the ACC on Tuesday, August 29th w/ Sean Paul opening. Don't know if it's sold out yet, but there are always scalpers on-site.

Tix range from $18 (the ones I got!!!) - $109.50. Click here for tix.
